Dated around 1603, this is one of Domenichino’s earliest works and showcases his youthful energy and dynamic composition. It reflects the influence of Annibale Carracci’s renewed approach to landscape. On the right, a servant waters two greyhounds by a stream, while a huntsman sounds his horn at center; on the left, two noblemen on horseback approach, followed by a page, and in the background another rider disappears into the forest.
This painting is preserved at the Pinacoteca Nazionale of Bologna.
