Paesaggio con Silvia e il satiro (1615 circa)

Paesaggio con Silvia e il satiro

This painting illustrates a pivotal moment from Torquato Tasso’s Aminta, in which the shepherd encounters a satyr attacking the nymph Silvia at a spring. In the background, Domenichino also depicts the preceding moment when the fleeing nymph runs naked, trying to escape. The episode, central to the story, is rendered with great emotional and narrative intensity, expressing Silvia’s distress and Aminta’s reaction.

The painting is housed in the Pinacoteca Nazionale of Bologna.
