Originally painted on the wall of the refectory of San Michele in Bosco, this fresco depicts the Gospel episode in which Christ responds to the Pharisees’ focus on ritual hand-washing, pointing out their neglect of inner purity.
Some figures echo those in the frescoes at Palazzo Poggi, supporting a date around 1553. The fresco was later detached and is now preserved at the Pinacoteca Nazionale of Bologna.
